Have you read the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act?”
If you haven’t, you’re not alone (apparently most members of Congress haven’t read it either) but if you do, you’re probably in for an unpleasant surprise. Most of what has been reported has focused on taxes, but there are many, many more disturbing changes to the US Code.
1. Click the link below and scroll down a bit to the section labeled “Text: H.R.1 — 119th Congress (2025-2026).”
2. On the line “There are 2 versions”, select “Text available as: XML/HTML (2MB).” This will download the bill as a searchable HTML file that not only lets you navigate the bill but also (and perhaps more importantly) links to existing sections of the US Code so you can examine the text that will be changed.
Warning: the file is over five hundred pages, so you’re not going to read this in an hour, and probably not in a day or week. Nevertheless, it’s information everyone needs to know and worth your time to at least check out the main points.
